A trend in the Asset Management industry is for managers to outsource non-core functions. RAMPartners can act as a marketing department for hire. Known in the business as "contract marketers", our job is to introduce hedge funds, alternative and traditional money managers to accredited and institutional investors so the manager can spend his/her time concentrating on outstanding returns. We are compensated by the manager for our services, and represent the manager rather than the investor. Our fees are tied to the performance of the fund, so it is in our best interest to represent high quality funds.
In our efforts to raise money, we constantly contact the private banking and institutional market in Switzerland for our manager/clients. Professionals use the term "alternative management" for any financial mechanism that operates outside of traditionally recognized portfolio management methods. Alternative managers aim for absolute performance, i.e. as high as possible and disconnected from any benchmarks, turning the slightest imperfections in the behavior of capital and financial markets to their advantage. Our Manager selection process is quite rigorous. We only work with managers who meet our goals of non-correlation to the general equity markets, consistency in returns, and integrity in all aspects of the operation. We look for low drawdowns, top quality management with strong money management experience and a high quality back-office infrastructure with industry recognized auditors, accountants, and prime brokers.
Being based in Geneva Switzerland, RAMPartners works with four distinct groups of investors: institutions, family offices, fund of funds, and accredited individuals. We match the length of the track record and the size of the fund to the potential investor base. We believe that the money raising process follows a life cycle: the fund usually starts with the manager's money along with close associates, then family offices and unrelated high net worth individuals, and then fund of funds and finally institutions.
Our sales process is deliberate and careful. All of our contacts are categorized based on their interest in particular strategies, acceptable length of a fund's track record, and the size of a fund. We have built our Swiss and Global databases of key contacts through several years of personal relationships. We scan through our contact base and call targeted institutions to explain the basics of the manager. We also utilize passive marketing strategies, including attendance and speaking at conferences, our website and our newsletters. If the institution is interested in a particular manager, we forward on information including the manager's marketing package. We will follow-up with a phone call within the week and schedule a personal meeting between the manager and the institution. Our personal contacts are the key to getting face-to-face meetings for the manager. From there onwards, we keep the institutions updated and wait for allocations.
Our monthly objective is to contact, by telephone or in person, approximately 100 of these professionals with whom we have had long-term relations. In Switzerland, personal meetings are more productive with the money manager present. Although we provide the contacts and schedule all the meetings, we prefer the manager commit to traveling often for the first year of our relationship. After that, RAMPartners will continue to follow up on the client's behalf.

How we organize
Our presentations are designed to achieve maximum results. Luncheon presentations are still a very popular way of raising capital and promoting brand awareness in Switzerland. All of our presentations are scheduled with an initial half hour networking session, followed by the meal. During the meal, the senior management team will make the presentation and during coffee and deserts will be the question and answering session. We also schedule an extra hour booking of the room at the end of the presentation for one-on-one follow up with interested attendees.
Booking of the perfect venue:
Most luncheon presentations will take place at a 5 star hotel. Depending on the city, the location of the hotel becomes very important. The hotel needs to be centrally located, with easy access. The meal served will be a gourmet meal, with several courses and an excellent selection of wines. The presentation facilities have to be impeccable with podium, laptop computer and proper lighting. RAMPartners organizes all of the details including presentation dates, meal & wine selection and making sure all of the facilities are functional.
The success of any luncheon presentation will be directly determined by the quality of the attendees. RAMPartners uses its extensive contacts and database to pre-qualify attendees for maximum results. RAMPartners prefers to organize more intimate presentations with a maximum of 25 participants so each manager can make a personal connection with the audience.

The key to raising capital and promoting brand awareness is the quality of the presentation. RAMPartners works with all of its clients to customize their presentation to the local crowd and expectations. We give each client valuable insight into how to interact with the local crowd.
Follow up with all participants
It is rare that participants will come up to the manager or company right at the luncheon and ask to immediately invest. An ongoing part of our relationship is to follow up with all the participants to determine their interest. Usually, a further individual meeting will be scheduled where the business will be closed.
